ASSIGNMENT 2 – Building Typologies

1.       Which building typology you are researching?
-          Educational facility of music and performance art centers

2.       Why are you researching this building typology?
-          Because music helps lift up my mood
-          takes my mind off things that I am trying to avoid
-          Brings peace and happiness

3.       What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research.
-          Music and theatre

4.       What are the examples that you will be researching… list the examples, location and architect              (10 examples)

5.       What are you goals for working with this building type?
-          Taking advantage of the natural light and incorporating it with the different programs.

6.       What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building? (may evolve once more research is done)
-          Arrangement of seating (balcony)

-          movable ceiling (mood) that helps change the acoustics depending on whether the orchestra is performing baroque or romantic music

  1. I think you need to think more about your program elements - classrooms, theaters, cafe, offices...
    why a moveable ceiling? retractable roof - like a sports stadium? Why not an outdoor theater in the open space and numerous theaters inside? Please include some images

    Please add me as a viewer so I receive notifications whenever you upload work. For question 2 I recommend that you argument for the need (social, communal, other) of such a space in the given site/neighborhood you are working with rather being very personal.

    For question 4 it would be nice to add images for each of the precedents. For question 6, movable ceiling and balcony are not exactly program elements. Building upon prof. Jill's comment think of the smaller programmatic spaces that you want to incorporate such as multiple theater spaces of different scales and interior/exterior, events spaces, gathering spaces etc etc
